Rob Jones, Wales & West Utilities emergency service manager for Swansea, said: “We were called to reports of an explosion at a property in the St Peters Road area of Newton this morning [yesterday] and immediately sent a team of engineers to attend.

“On arrival, we found that there had been structural damage to the property and the emergency services were in control of the scene. As a precaution, nearby properties had been evacuated and there were no injuries.

“Crews utilised four breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets and one 45mm jet to extinguish the fire. The National Grid and Wales and West Utilities were also in attendance to cap energy supplies into the property.

“Crews left the scene at 10.16am.” A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “All people linked to the address have been accounted for with no injuries.
