Birchgove’s double blow in battle for survival

IN MIDWEEK action, Birchgrove Colts were looking for a second win in succession over Port Tennant Colts as they looked to preserve their Swansea Senior League top-flight status.

Sam Lloyd opened the scoring for hosts Birchgrove. A pair of goals from Harrison Fredericks­on gave the visitors the lead before Jake O’grady levelled matters.

Fredericks­on completed his hattrick on 53 minutes to give the visitors the lead but O’grady’s second goal levelled matters at 3-3 before a Callum Hook winner gave Port Tennant a 4-3 win.

St Joseph’s superb league campaign continued as they swept aside the challenge of Plough Colts 8-1. Kykle Copp helped himself to four first half goals as Saints raced into a 5-0 halftime lead, Camden Rich also scoring.

Rich got his second on 72 minutes, Callum Ash made it 7-0 minutes later, then came a consolatio­n goal from Kieran Hayley before Kallum Owen finished the scoring.

Ragged School secured a win over Treboeth United thanks to goals from Oliver Morcom and Cai Green, as a second league win of the season boosted their chances of avoiding relegation.

Waunarlydd Galaxy beat a rejuvenate­d Blaenymaes 3-1 thanks to a pair of goals from Cian Jenkins.

He opened the scoring after being played in by Brenda Opara. Liam Pritchard equallised on the hour mark but Steven Stock converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 before Jenkins wrapped up the scoring two minutes later to make it five unbeaten for Waunarlydd.

On Saturday Plough Colts’ winless run continued as they lost 3-1 at home to Clase Social. Kyle Campbell grabbed a brace before Plough were reduced to nine just before the halftime break. Plough battled on and were rewarded when O’donnell netted from the penalty spot before Whitelock restored the two-goal lead.

Port Tennant Colts’ third loss in five matches saw them lose 3-0 at home to Blaenymaes. Ceiran Edwards scored in the first minute before a Jones double completed the scoring.

Brad Israel and Delano Tortarello got the the goals as Ragged School completed the league double over a Treboeth United side that have four league matches left to secure their top-flight status.

Waunarlydd Galaxy hit Birchgrove Colts for six. Brendan Opara opened the scoring with two well-taken strikes. Cian Jenkins, a Jamie Pritchard double and a Jack Hodges strike completed the scoring.

In midweek division 2 action, Penclawdd made it three wins out of three over league newcomers Fforestfac­h with a 7-2 away success.

Kurtis Russ opened the scoring on before Liam Scott equallised. An Ashley Johns penalty on 10 minutes made it 2-1 to the visitors before Conor Allen levelled before half-time.

Penclawdd became far more clinical in the second half and Johns got his second goal before Josh Allen made it 4-2. Johns completed his hattrick and Russ put the game beyond Fofrestfac­h.

Daniel Keefe completed the scoring on 86 minutes to secure Penclawdd’s 16th league win of the season as they seem destined to complete a league and cup double.

Kingsbridg­e recovered from going 2-0 down to secure their seventh league win in succession with a 5-2 win over Bonymaen Colts.

Osman and Sillitoe gave the visitors a 2-0 lead inside 30 minutes, but goals from Davies, Norton and Lucas gave Kings the lead by the 60th minute. Just two minutes later they were 4-2 ahead when Nicholas Hopkins scored after being played in by Wilson. Corum Bell rounded off the scoring in the final minute.

FC Bonymaen hit nine past hosts Sandfields, two grabbed two in reply.

A Ben Dennis brace and one from Dean Gardener saw the visitors race into a 3-0 lead before Tom Brown pulled one back for the hosts.

Dennis completed his hat-trick and Gardener added a second to put the match beyond Sandfields who had Adam Avo sent off.

Dennis added two more and and a pair of goals late on from Liam Woods helped secure the 9-2 win as FC Bonymaen continued to pursue their promotion ambitions.

On Saturday Cwmfelin Press secured runners-up spot with a narrow 3-2 win over FC Bonymaen.

Dean Green netted for the hosts before Edwards scored twice to put Press ahead. Liam Woods levelled from the penalty spot but Elliot Tooze scored the winner.

Bonymaen Colts came out on top 6-3 at Fforestfac­h. A Lee Johnson brace, Anthony Clarke and Leon Sillitoe made it 4-0 when Fforestafc­h’s Conor Clements was dismissed.

Liam Scott’s penalty pulled one back but Johnson got his hat-trick before a Crocombe brace narrowed the lead to 5-3 then Jack Edwards rounded things off for the visitors.

A very resilient Union Rangers kept champions-elect Penclawdd at bay for 60 minutes when Luke Lewis broke the deadlock. Keiran Slack doubled the lead and Luke Shepherd and Ashleigh Johns rounded out the scoring.

Llangyfela­ch made it through to the West Wales Intermedia­te Cup Final for the first time in their history with a 3-0 win over Merlin’s Bridge.

Callum Boyce got the Swansea side off to a flyer and Kieran Burder made it 2-0 early in the second half before Ben Scannell clinched Llangyfela­ch’s place in the final, where they will face Penlan at the Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday, May 14.
