Motorcycli­st died after crash with car

A MOTORCYCLI­ST died after a crash with a car in a town centre.

Arran Thomas Lester, 29, died on May 30 when his motorbike collided with a car on High Street, Abertridwr.

At an inquest opening at Newport Coroner’s Court yesterday, coroner Caroline Saunders said: “On May 30, 2024 Gwent Police officers attended a two-vehicle road collision.

“The rider of the motorbike was pronounced life extinct at the scene by paramedics and identified as Arran Thomas Lester.”

She said Mr Lester, of Richmond Close in Llanbradac­h, was taken to The Grange hospital where a post mortem examinatio­n was carried out by Dr Majid Rashid.

Mr Lester’s provisiona­l cause of death was determined as blunt vehicular trauma.

Ms Saunders said a full inquest hearing will take place once post mortem and toxicology reports have been completed, as well as the Gwent Police investigat­ion.

She adjourned the inquest until January 16, 2025.

A previous statement from Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision in High Street, Abertridwr at around 8.45pm on Thursday, May 30.

“Officers attended along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service, and the collision involved a Volkswagen Tiguan and a motorbike.

“The motorcycli­st, a 29-year-old man from Llanbradac­h, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His next of kin have been informed and specialist officers will be allocated to support them.
