Cardiff & District Snooker League

-

FAIRWATER Cons Mack have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League after they won a pulsating derby 3-2 against title rivals Fairwater Cons in the Cardiff and District Snooker League (sponsored by Rosetta Sports.)

Brian Rees won an intense opening frame against Shaun O’Connell, before a 78 from Alan Hurley made it 2-0 against previously unbeaten Rob McKenna.

A 46 break from Jason Hewett was enough to see off Steve Flanagan, but an outstanding 91 break from Steffan Davies against Khurram Khan turned the tide, with a century looking likely until he missed the green on the side cushion.

A fluked pink by Ronnie Allen in the final frame looked like it was going to be enough, but he rattled the black and Terry Garland held himself together to pot a pressure pot and take what could be an important consolation frame for his side.

Taff’s Well are level with Fairwater in second place after they won a hard-fought match 3-2 away to Division One leaders Mackintosh Snooker.

Ian Purnell won the opener against Eassa Din, before Billy Connors levelled with victory over

Rhys Carpenter.

Jimmy Llewellyn then restored Taff’s Well’s lead after he defeated Carlos Schiazza, before the frame of the night saw Kevin Brown beat Mike Nessbert on the black after a nerveless clearance to win the match for his side, although Nathan Dunne managed to win a consolation frame for Mackintosh in the final frame against Glyn Jones.

Canton Libs are the third side tied in second place, but they missed the chance to close the gap on the leaders after losing 3-2 at Rumney British Legion. They took the lead though as Rory Wigmore won the opening frame against Glyn Hayes, before Paul Chichester made it 1-1 after beating Luke Haines.

James Facey kept up his impressive individual form with victory over Justin Behnan, but Andy Magill’s win against James Wigmore took the frame to the decider, with Tony Parkin beating Tony Chick to win the match for Rumney.

Caerphilly Cons closed the gap at the top of Division One with a 4-1 over Roath Cons, with Dan Bridle beating Andrew Champion in the first frame.

Dai Berkinshaw made it 2-0 after he defeated Kerri Whiting and Mike Pardoe made sure of the win after he beat Rob Reid.

Dai Rideout’s win against Alan Wright made it 4-0, but Lee Cornock won a consolation frame after beating Ciaran Paul.

Meanwhile, The Cons’ return to form continued after they beat RBL Warriors 3-2, to close the gap in the Division One title race.
