Images show scale of damage after explosion
NEW photos show the scale of damage to a gym and industrial unit in Treforest after a horrific explosion and fire last month.
Danielle Evans, 40, died in the incident on December 13, as police confirmed her body was found at the site of the blast in Treforest Industrial Estate in Severn Road.
South Wales Police has been working with the fire service and Health and Safety Executive to establish the cause of the incident at the Rizla House building.
Ms Evans was the owner of a laboratory business – Celtic Food Labs – which was based there.
Another business affected was Mindset Functional Fitness, which was on the second floor.
People using the gym at the time said they ran screaming as radiators blew off the walls and rubble rained down on the car park.
At the time, a major incident was declared by emergency services, with the two-storey building described as “totally alight” and “at risk of collapse” by the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
A month on from the blast, new photos and videos have shown the scale of the damage to the building and its surroundings.
While part the structure of the building remains intact, the roof has collapsed in parts, and other sections have been reduced to rubble.
There appears to be work ongoing at the unit to clear the site, with a digger pictured among the debris. The surrounding units appear unaffected.
