NORTH Lincolnshire’s first-ever walking festival will take place this autumn.

As part of North Lincolnshire Council’s Year Of Walking celebrations, the festival will run from Saturday, September 28, to Sunday, October 13, and aims to highlight and provide a range of free activities for all ages across the area.

All local walking groups and enthusiasts, who already contribute to an impressive array of walking activities, are being invited to join the festival and host their own events.

From historical walks around the region’s quaint villages to bug hunts in Ashby Ville, or leisurely strolls around Central Park, the festival aims to put a spotlight on the stunning landscapes and routes across North Lincolnshire, as well as the vibrant activities taking place in local communities.

Cllr Richard Hannigan, cabinet member for adults and health, said: “Walking really does tick all the boxes – it is easy, free, good for your mental and physical health, you can do it alone or with friends and you can start right outside your front door.

“We have some wonderful open spaces in North Lincolnshire, including six Green Flag parks and the fantastic area around of Normanby Hall, Waters’ Edge and Thornton Abbey.

“I encourage everyone to get involved in the Festival of Walking, from going on a treasure hunt with your children to tackling the Viking Way.”

People are being invited to register their events as part of the North Lincolnshire Walking Festival 2024 via its Facebook group.

Once joined, they can create an event, ensuring to include details such as dates, times, meeting points, estimated duration/length of walk and parking information.

If an activity has a limited number of places, details for residents to reserve a place should be included.

Any optional extras, such as refreshments or meals, should also be noted.

All events will also be featured as part of the Walking Festival on

LiveWell North Lincolnshire.

For those without access to Facebook, event details can be forwarded to the Walking North Lincolnshire team using their online events form.

North Lincolnshire Council is offering free walk leader confidence builders and walking toolkits for anyone who loves the idea of getting involved and running their own event as part of the festival but doesn’t know where to start.
