£100m worth of talent Leeds could lose before Blues visit by Jordan Jones
Pompey travel to Elland
Road to face title favourites Leeds on the opening day of the 2024/25 Championship season.
It's as hard as it gets for John Mousinho's side on their return to the second tier as they face the team that lost to Southampton in last season's play-off final.
There is still a month to go until the season begins, and it will be interesting to see how the two teams line up.
Leeds have already seen teenage midfielder Archie Gray join Tottenham for £30m, but Joe Rodon has returned on a permanent basis for £10m.
The Whites could lose a further £100m worth of talent by the time the curtain is lifted on 2024-25.
Last season's Championship Player of the Year, Crysencio Summerville, has been linked with Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea and even Paris St Germain.
Leeds will demand a considerable fee, as Dutch side Feyennord hold 15 per cent of any transfer. The 22-year-old, who scored 19 second tier goals last season, has a price tag of £35-40m.
Georginio Rutter could also leave. Sgned from
Hoffenheim for a reported £35.5m in January 2022, Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly had a bid of £30m rejected earlier this month.
In addition, Everton are long-term admirers of £30m rated midfielder Wilfried Gnonto.
Failure to achieve promotion last season brought into focus the club’s finances and while reports of a Peter Ridsdale-era fire sale were wide of the mark, money did need to come in before the June 30 accounting deadline, with Leeds working to remain compliant with profitability and sustainability rules.
That cash injection duly came via the sale of Gray.
Coupled with the investment from new minority shareholders and frontof-shirt sponsors Red Bull, Leeds don’t have to sell on the cheap.
Despite that, the Football Insider website expects Leeds to sell Summerville, Rutter and Gnonto before Pompey visit. Elsewhere, Finnish international midfielder Glen Kamara has been strongly linked with a move to Ligue 1 club Rennes.
