Cowan and Davies star as Meon lift Sunday cup
The Meon boasted two hat-trick heroes as they romped to victory in the final of the Hampshire FA Sunday Senior Cup.
The City of Portsmouth Sunday League outfit thrashed East Christchurch SSC 6-0 at the Winklebury complex in Basingstoke. The goals were shared between James Cowan, pictured, and Max Davies.
There was further success for the COPSL in the Hampshire FA Sunday Vase when Division 3 winners Fort Cumberland lifted the trophy with a 2-1 win over Waterlooville Social.
In the league, all but one of the divisions have been decided.
Creech Wood dropped points in their bid to overhaul ACFC and be crowned Division 6 champions.
They were held 1-1 in the first game of a double header against AFC Eastney – Richard Duggan equalising for Eastney – before losing the second 2-0 courtesy of a Jake Hampton double.
Wood must now win both of their remaining fixtures to pip ACFC for the title on goal difference.
Cowplain leapfrogged FFC to finish runners-up in Division 4 thanks to a dramatic victory over them.
FFC looked good for second place when they opened up a 2-0 lead following a Callum Coker double. But Cowplain hit back thanks to a Cameron Tomkins double and a FFC own goal.
Fulcrum had to win both their last two games against AC Copnor to secure the Division 2 title. This they did courtesy of two 1-0 wins in a double banker, Reece Austin scoring in the first game and Charlie Fry in the second.
Barry Jeans took his Freehouse seasonal tally to 42 in all competitions after netting five in a 10-2 Division 5 caning of AFC Farlington Reserves.
