Man alive! Ewan’s all-round display helps rout Hartley

-

Ewan Mansford impressed with bat and ball as Portsmouth & Southsea enjoyed a big Southern Premier League win against Hartley Wintney.

After losing their opening-day Division 2 fixture to Hambledon, P & S bounced back with a 160-run victory at St James.

Mansford opened the batting and was introduced as a first change bowler.

He followed up his 68 against Hambledon with 41 as P & S posted 246-7 after electing to bat.

Mansford then bagged 3-12 off a miserly 10 overs in reply as Hartley Wintney were skittled for 86.

P & S were 88-3 when Jack Davies departed, but Ollie Kanavan and Mansford put on 73 for the fourth wicket.

Wicket-keeper Kanavan top scored with 53, including eight fours, while Jake

Peach (22 not out) and Ben Saunders (18 not out) added an unbroken 40 for the eighth wicket.

Hartley slumped to

46-6 with skipper Hugo Hammond (12) becoming Mansford’s first victim.

Maxwell Goddard chipped in with 2-7 while Usman Akram (2-2 off eight balls) wrapped up the innings in the 37th over.

Hambledon are one of only two third tier clubs to have won their opening two matches after a low-scoring win against Fair Oak.

Henry Glanfield played a major role in both innings after Hambledon were bowled out for 128 – but then hit back to dismiss Oak for 100.

First, Glanfield – batting at No 5 – top scored with 46, adding 73 for the fifth wicket with skipper Spencer Le Clercq (22) after the Dons had sagged to 32-4.

Rhys Oakley (3-28) ran through the tail as Hambledon’s last four wickets mustered just one run. Oak fared no better, bowled out in the 44th over with only three batters reaching double figures.

Two of those were the last-wicket pair of Matt White (30 not out) and Lewis Goodyear (10), who added 31 after Oak had crumbled to 69-9.

Glanfield, introduced as first change, took 4-15 with Ollie Bembridge (2-18) and opening bowler James Restall (2-20) also among the wickets.
