Equestrian display is tribute to Amanda
A show by a talented Perthshire equestrian stunt rider has raised just over £15,000 for a cancer charity in memory of her mum.
The money raised over two nights at Bridge of Earn’s Netherton Equestrian Centre last month was in memory of the late Amanda Mcwilliam who had performed with Killiecrankie’s Riders of the Storm for many years.
Grandmother Amanda, just 56 when she died of cancer, used her love and passion for horses to bring their shows to life, and her vast riding knowledge to help train daughter Kirsty and other Riders of the Storm performers.
The Bridge of Earn shows included trick horse riding, aerial silk acrobatics, fire performances, and live singing.
There had been a sell-out crowd of more than 300 people each night, raising a total of £15,001.54 for Maggie’s Dundee which cared for Amanda in her final days.
Her daughter Kirsty (35) said this week: “The amount raised for Maggie’s Dundee from the Just A Dream Show has surpassed all of our hopes and expectations- and that’s down to the public for their support in buying tickets, the cast and crew for donating their time and talents, as well as all the vendors involved who donated their proceeds along with us across both nights.
“Ultimately the conclusion to this epic tale is that together we made a difference, to a cause so worthy, which will help a wonderful charity continue to bring comfort and guidance to those in need, as our family once were only last year.
“The sun set beautifully over the Netherton Arena to close the last show on the Sunday, a sign from Amanda herself that she had been proudly watching. So thank you, to all involved and to Maggie’s, we remain so grateful.”
Maggie’s was established in 1996 and has since grown into a network of centres built beside NHS hospitals across the UK.
