Pupils thrilled with new outdoor space
Staff and pupils at Robert Douglas Memorial (RDM) primary school were thrilled when the new outdoor space was unvieled after months of work to bring the project to fruition.
The improvements at the Scone school were carried out as part of the Cross Tay Link Road project and included the installation of drainage pipes in the outdoor play area; logs reclaimed from Stormontfield for the outdoor seating and jungle gym trail; a gazebo, and finishing landscaping and tyre planters.
RDM Parent Council representative Michelle Jamieson and RDM headteacher Lynne Lambert contacted the CTLR project in summer 2023 with a request to help with improvements to the school’s outdoor space.
On Monday the new seating area with permanent wooden gazebo, and a full refurbishment of the jungle gym play area was officially handed over to the delighted pupils.
RDM headteacher Lynne Lambert said it was fantastic too see years of hard work finally be ready for pupils to enjoy.
She said: “We are thrilled to see this project come to fruition after many years of discussion.
“Driven by the parent council, the vision has always been to enhance the opportunities for outdoor learning in all weathers.
“From simple activities such as leaf printing to structured programmes including the John Muir Trust Award, this will be a well-used, safe space.”

UK and Ireland, Derek Walsh added: “This has very much been a team project, completed at no cost to the school or PKC.
“Labour and materials were donated by BAM UK and Ireland as the main contractor for the CTLR project, and this was supported by four of our sub-contractors; Alter Landscapes ltd, Laird Contractors Ltd, GB Landscapes NI, and Mills Contractors Ltd.
“In addition to this, wood used for the outdoor seating area was sustainably reclaimed from trees felled during the project’s site clearance works at Stormontfield.”
PKC roads and infrastructure manager Jillian Ferguson commented: “We were delighted to see the outdoor area completed in time for the children to enjoy it over the summer months.
“Ensuring the CTLR project positively impacts the communities most impacted by works has been a key priority of the project from the start.
“This is a fantastic example of how communities, PKC and the CTLR project can all work together for positive outcomes.”
