Works to begin on Perthshire roads

-

Work on multiple stretches of road in east Perthshire is to be carried out at various points in the next financial year.

Local elected members were recently given an update in terms of the broad timescale for the plans by Perth and Kinross Council officers.

In April, work is to be undertaken on the A923 at the junction of Blairgowrie’s Coupar Angus Road and Emma Street, as well as on Rattray High Street between Hatton Road and Balmoral Road.

The following month, work is to be done on both Golf Course Road in Rosemount and Glenalmond Road in Rattray.

Around the same time, overnight work is expected on the A93 north of Bridge of Cally.

Palace Road residents will also see their road resurfaced and a 30mph speed restriction introduced, with similar speed restrictions in the pipeline for Kinloch where local residents need to access local bus services.

The work is part of the wider programme of projects in the area which is thought will cost at least £1.5 million.

Part of this investment will be used to create a car park associated with the new Blairgowrie Recreation Centre, which is currently under construction.

The blue also includes scope for a new toucan crossing, with a raised table designed to improve safety in the vicinity of the state-ofthe-art sports facility.

Blairgowrie and Glens SNP councillor Tom Mcewan said: “Road safety and road maintenance work are very important responsibilities for the council and each ward has a long list of work and improvements.

“The new no-pavement parking laws, 20mph residential areas and work related to the new Destiny Bridge across the River Tay will be competing for officers’ time over the coming year, so it is reassuring there is still room for these important project to be completed or moved forward in the Blairgowrie and Glens ward during 2024/25.”

Cllr Mcewan also said that plans to install a drop-off zone in Hazelwood Road are “in advance stages of development and implementation”, with proposed laybys for Elm

Drive also still mooted but requiring“further preparatory works”.

Precise details in relation to each project will be issued nearer the time.
