Luncarty strikelate forderby victory

- ROBBIE CHALMERS

Luncarty claimed the local bragging rights on Wednesday night after pulling off a shock 1-0 win away at Jeanfield Swifts.

Ben Scarborough’s goal was the derby difference under the Riverside lights and hands the Bleachers their fourth Premier Division win of the season.

It is the first home loss of the campaign for Swifts and the first time they failed to score at home in that period.

The result has propelled Luncarty, in 15th place, to within four points of the safety spot in 13th place, occupied by Glenrothes.

Bleachers boss Mark Baxter said: “I am delighted for the boys.

“They have had a hard season but we have stuck at it.

“Credit to them because Jeanfield are a great outfit.

“Ben was very composed. He takes a touch and then scores at a crucial time at about the 75th minute.

“We faced a bit of a storm after that but the boys stood up to it. League points is what we need to be getting on the board now.”

There are 12 league positions between the sides with Jeanfield remaining third, level on points with Musselborough Athletic.

“It’s a blow in terms of our aspirations to get up the table,” said Swifts boss Robbie Holden.

“It was a fairly typical derby where I didn’t think there was a huge amount of quality in the game. Credit to Luncarty because they worked really hard out of possession and looked a threat.

“I don’t think we did enough in the final third and that’s not like us - we have scored 90 goals in 29 games this year.

“We are disappointed but it’s a good thing that we have a game on Saturday at Tynecastle and we will go and try to put on a performance.”
