Teams are on target to show off all their tactics and skill in the Fair City

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

Teams from around the region descended on the Fair City recently for a boccia festival organised by Perth and Kinross Disability Sport and UHI Perth.

Held at the Academy of Sport and Wellbeing on Wednesday, February 21, as many as 26 teams took part in the popular inclusive sport.

A game of tactics and skill, boccia is a target sport similar to bowls played indoors using soft leather balls.

Brogan Dodds, Archie Graham and Michael Hill from UHI Perth were the winners on the day.

The final was decided on a tie break following a dramatic 3-3 draw against Emma Mcmanamon and Jean Mcmillan from the Royal School of Dunkeld and Inch View Primary School’s Sophie Mcfee.

The Perth High 3 team finished on bronze postion after getting the better of Perth High 4 in the play-off.

Graeme Doig, of Perth and Kinross Disability Sport, thanked host venue UHI Perth and Scottish Disability Sport for helping to create what was described as “wonderful day”.

He continued:“there were lots of amazing shots, close matches and big smiles as we introduced boccia to so many pupils and students with disabilities and additional support needs.

“A huge well done to the winners and all the other players, as well as to the brilliant students from UHI Perth for planning, organising and delivering such a fun, inclusive, event with me.

“Thanks should also go to Perth Eagles Boccia Club allowing us to use their equipment.”
