A lottery winner who moved to Perth after scooping an £11million jackpot share has died.

Former double-glazing boss Paul Maddison and ex-business partner Mark Gardiner won a whopping £22,590,829 in 1995.

The 73-year-old is understood to have passed away in the region on November 28 – just months after his 62-year-old wife Evelyn Mcgillivary died in January.

He is understood to have suffered a heart attack.

A spokesperson for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: “The procurator fiscal received a report in connection with the death of a 73-year-old man in Perth on November 28.

“Following investigation the procurator fiscal concluded that no further action was required.

“The family have been informed.”

After the win, Paul, originally from Hastings, East Sussex, moved to Perth so he could be closer to his sister Annie Ferguson.

Just months later, his marriage to wife Ruth fell apart after she left him for another man.

Maddison moved into a luxury six-bedroom mansion – Lettertabor Lodge – before hiring Evelyn, who later became his wife, to clean it.

After spending £10,000 doing up the property, he sold it for £450,000 to a member of the Stagecoach tycoon family.

The couple married on a beach in Mauritius on Valentine’s Day in 1997.

In 1999, publicity-shy Paul hit the headlines after suing a tiny laundrette over a teastained silk bedspread.

The millionaire was seeking £953 compensation after the dry-cleaning shop failed to remove the mark – instead leaving the cover with a “pink tint”.

But The Laundry Shop argued staff had warned efforts to remove the stain were done at Maddison’s own risk due to a lack of cleaning instructions on the item.

The outcome of the legal action is unknown.

The couple went on to buy 16th century Robgill Tower, near Dumfries, for £650,000, where they reportedly lived a “reclusive” lifestyle, rarely seen by neighbours.

Paul installed security cameras, remote-controlled gates and an intercom to vet visitors.

Neighbours and locals previously told the Sunday Mail they rarely saw the couple emerge from the 40acre estate.

By 2008, Paul and Evelyn decided it was time to downsize and put the castle on the market for £2.8million.

Former florist Evelyn told the Record: “It has been a fabulous and very happy house but it has become too big for us.

“Now we want something more manageable. This house is lottery fantasy now. Maybe another winner will buy it.”

The couple are understood to have then moved back to the Perth and Kinross area. Evelyn reportedly passed away after a health battle this year.

Earlier this year, joint lotto winner Mark declined to say whether he still talked to his former business partner.

He said he is back on the road working after bad investments saw him lose millions.
