Captivating line-up of motorcycles rolls into highly anticipated Autumn Stafford Sale

-

Join the Bonhams motorcycle team for the top auction house’s Autumn Stafford Sale, and what is set to be another keynote event.

This weekend’s sale includes a true hidden gem, a 1928 Brough Superior SS100 Alpine Grand Sport (£140,000-£180,000). This rare, matching-numbers model, untouched for decades, has a rich history, having been owned by notable figures such as Clem Beckett, a speedway rider who died in the Spanish Civil War.

Another highlight is the Olympia Show Model, 1936 VincentHRD 998cc Rapide Series-A (£240,000-£280,000), the second built and oldest surviving example.

The 1913 Flying Merkel 995cc Twin Seventy-one 471 (£150,000-£200,000), once owned by American hero and stunt rider Bud Ekins, was the fastest motorcycle in the world when it was built. Acquired from Bud in the late 1990s, this powerful Merkel boasts a rich history, having been discovered by Bud in a Mexican goldmine.

The 1913 Wilkinson 830cc TMC Four (£80,000-£100,000) is one of a tiny handful of survivors of this type. Powered by a 679cc inline four-cylinder engine and featuring shaft drive, Wilkinson’s Touring Motor Cycle was reputed to be one of the best British motorcycles of its era.
