TELL US AN UNFORGETTABLE RECOLLECTION ABOUT AN OBJECT FROM A CHILDHOOD LIVING ROOM.

For me, it was a real challenge to find a tangible memory, it took me a week to come up with something. My sister sent me a text with lots of things she remembered yet nothing seemed emotional. And suddenly, last night as I was trying to get to sleep, it came to me in the form of a nostalgic aroma, the scent of water as we drank from these special golden-green coloured cloudy from age but once transparent plastic water glasses…. I think there was also a jug, with a slightly ribbed surface and a smooth solid base, at least I remember a jug with a bulbous shape, and it reminded me of the underside of a whale. Growing up in London, we waited impatiently for the weekend, when we’d drive to Sussex to stay with my grandparents on their farm. The water was delicious, I remember being a hot faced child greedily gulping water from these glasses, feeling the smile of the glass wedged in my mouth. The glasses were quite ‘7os, the colour and scent, and I will always associate this object with my grandparents and those special moments.

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN YOU SAW YOUR MEMORY COME TO LIFE IN AN IMAGE VIA CLARA’S 3D CREATION?

At first, I was surprised that Clara didn’t use the golden-green colour as described. But I was so pleased that she enhanced the descriptions of the memory, like the whale-like curves of the jug and the ribbed surface of the glass. Clara’s 3D creation evoked nostalgic emotions, the scale of the objects, the feeling of excitement, a reminiscence of thirsty children, spilt water and empty glasses.
