Contracts headache for City

WHO ELSE HAS NO TIGERS FUTURE?

Hull City have already had a very busy summer in the transfer market as the Tigers continue their upheaval following last season’s near miss at securing a play-off place. No fewer than 13 players have left the club on a permanent basis and, so far, they have only secured the permanent signings of Ryan Giles from Luton Town and Cody Drameh from Leeds United.

City recouped big money for Jacob Greaves and Jaden Philogene as they joined Ipswich Town and Aston Villa respectively, while Ozan Tufan (Trabzonspor) and Ryan Allsop (Birmingham City) have also brought in transfer fees for the Tigers.

Adama Traore, Billy Sharp, Ryan Woods, Greg Docherty, Matt Ingram, Aaron Connolly, Cyrus Christie, Vaughn Covil and David Robson have all left on free transfers, too, and the Tigers now have some more decisions to make over seven players who could find themselves in a similar boat next summer.

Seven players currently on the Tigers’ books are out of contract on June 30, 2025, and City will be assessing their futures and if they should offer them fresh terms.

Jean-michael Seri leads that list and while he isn’t getting any younger, the 33-year-old remains a key part of City’s midfield.

However, the other six players all spent last season out on loan and the decision Tim Walter must make now is whether he sees any of those players having a future at the MKM or whether the club should try and cash in on them this summer before losing them for nothing next year.

The list includes Oscar Estupinan, who scored 14 goals for City in the 2022-23 season, as well as Ryan Longman, Dogukan Sinik, Thimothee Lo-tutala, Jason Lokilo and Brandon Fleming and decisions over their futures could impact further City spending in the summer transfer market.

And Lokiko is now set to depart after the Tigers agreed a deal with CSKA Sofia.
