NORTHERN BELLE SETTING OFF FROM HULL ON TRIP TO WALES
A VERY glamorous train will be making a rare visit to Hull before whisking passengers away on an adventure to northern Wales.
The 1930s Pullman-style Northern Belle will take passengers on a luxurious journey to an award-winning whisky distillery in Llandudno.
The trip on the vintage train, which was once part of the Orient Express group, sold out in record time, despite tickets costing almost £500 each.
But that does include a champagne brunch during the journey to Llandudno, followed by a gourmet sixcourse dinner with wine on the way home.
The train sets out from Hull at 7.10am on Saturday, July 20, before picking up more passengers at York and Leeds.
A spokesman said: “This will be our first visit to the Penderyn distillery, which claims to be the home of Welsh whisky and has produced several award-winning single malts.”
Once in Llandudno, passengers have the choice of visiting the distillery or taking a trip to Conwy Castle, built between 1283 and 1287, which offers a fascinating insight into medieval life. They will also have a chance to explore the seaside resort, if they wish.
Actor Bill Nighy described the Northern Belle as the “Grand Dame of luxury travel” when it featured on Channel 5’s The World’s Most Scenic Railway Routes programme. And readers of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller magazine voted it in the top 15 of the world’s greatest trains.
The Northern Belle will return to Hull on Saturday August 31, for a steamhauled journey over the picturesque Settle-carlisle line before a trip to Edinburgh in November. After that, it won’t be back again until July next year.
