MEET THE MAKER
Queenie Ingrams @queenie.paints
Can you tell us about your background?
I studied ne art at college and was drawn to portraiture. I enjoyed trying to capture personality and someone’s energy. I struggled with dyslexia at school, it made me frustrated and unfocused. Painting was the perfect antidote to this. I studied at the Van Der Kelen Institute, where I learnt to transfer my skills into an interior-based painting style.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I have mostly looked to nature. It’s ever-changing and endlessly beautiful. I can get caught up in detail and try to keep my eyes open to new and exciting artists. I always feel brave enough to play. It might not always work but I enjoying experimenting.
What is it you love most about what you do?
I love that I can change a space that means so much to someone. A home is an incredibly personal place and it is always an honour to be let in by someone. I try to capture what that person is like and give them something that will bring joy. When I work on a project I feel truly immersed in their vision.
Can you recommend any other creatives that we should know about?
I love Lucinda Oakes. She paints with incredible skill and depth. Her projects are totally breathtaking. I also love Anna Glover – her work displays so many cultural in uences and is painted with such delicacy.
If you weren’t a painter, what was plan B?
I always dreamt of being an actress and for a while really pushed to make it happen. However, having worked at this, I believe nothing would have made me as happy. It has brought me a feeling of calm I had never really experienced. It allowed me to feel con dent and capable and for that I’m grateful.
