British Bespoke Auctions moves from Winchcombe to Broadway

BRITISH BESPOKE AUCTIONS HOLDS MONTHLY ONLINE LIVE AND TIMED SALES, NOW BASED IN CHILDSWICKHAM NEAR BROADWAY AND COVERING GLOUCESTERSHIRE, WORCESTERSHIRE AND HEREFORDSHIRE. AUCTIONS INCLUDE SILVER AND GOLD, JEWELLERY, WATCHES, COINS, MEDALS AND MILITARIA,

- CHINA AND THE UNITED STATES.

AUCTIONEER and valuer Nicholas Granger specialises in jewellery, silver and watches. He enjoys looking through collections of items to find hidden treasures that are easily missed to the untrained eye. “Some time ago I found a set of Faberge dress studs amongst a box of costume jewellery, which we then sold for £10,000!”

British Bespoke Auctions has achieved some spectacular results over the past few years - buyers are more discerning now, looking for the rare and unusual items which achieve top results. Items such as the more common Royal Doulton and Royal Worcester figurines, cut glass and crystal, modern and Victorian furniture are falling in price dramatically. However, there is always an exception to the rule BBA sold a rare Royal Worcester figurine of a monkey for £420 in their March sale. “We never say ‘no’ to items without looking at them first as there’s always the exception, but it is the unusual items that achieve the big prices!”

Nicholas tells of selling a George III mahogany and gilt bronze library desk in 2022. “The desk came to us with other items previously from Glympton Park. We had an estimate of £2,000-3,000 which attracted bidding from all over the world. Three telephone bidders and several online bidders battled for highest bid, but eventually the hammer came down at an amazing £36,000!”

“The good thing about selling your items at auction rather than to a dealer is that we will always give you an honest valuation and strive to get the best results for you as we work on commission. We put items in front of a worldwide audience and can achieve higher prices when multiple bidders are bidding back and forth on an item!” says Nicholas.

Recent top hammer prices include Royal Worcester Fallen Fruits tea set sold for £14,500, a c1840 French diamond and pearl drop-pendant brooch sold for £20,000, Rolex Gmt-master II sold for £8,000. Last November’s auction was held at Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, courtesy of Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe, including original artwork by Joseph William Mallord Turner and Thomas Gainsborough. They are planning a second auction at Sudeley Castle in February 2025.

British Bespoke Auctions’ next auction is being held on Thursday 13th June at Lifford Hall in Broadway starting at 11:30am, with STV Productions filming for BBC’S Antiques Road Trip! All are welcome to attend and bid in the room. Viewing will be available the week of the sale at BBA’S Head Office at Avondale Self Storage, Hinton Road, Childswickham near Broadway, WR12 7HZ. BBA is inviting consignments for auction of jewellery, silver, antiques and collectables deadline Wednesday 29th May. The team offers valuations at their Head Office and valuations in the privacy of your own home.
