Man caught driving car while being disqualified

-

A GLASGOW man who was caught behind the wheel of a car twice despite being banned from driving has been disqualified again.

Saem Yasim, 22, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing recently after pleading guilty to two charges of driving a car while disqualified.

The court heard that at around 5pm on June 21 last year, police were on patrol on Calder Street in the city’s Govanhill when they asked a vehicle to pull over.

Officers spoke to the driver at that time and no further action was taken.

However, less than two weeks later cops were on patrol on Woodlands Road in Kelvinbridge when they saw Yasim driving a vehicle at around 8.45pm.

Police carried out a PNC check of the car and signalled for it to stop, which it did.

Officers approached Yasim and at that point, a decision was made to take him to London Road police office.

Whilst there Yasim had his fingerprints scanned and provided a DNA sample which identified him.

A check of his licence showed he was disqualified from driving until November 3, 2023.

Yasim’s lawyer told the court that his client, who is from Pollokshields, wasn’t initially charged for the first offence until after the second offence had taken place.

The defence solicitor added: “One offence took place shortly after the other. I don’t think he fully understood the significance of the ban.”

Addressing Yasim, sheriff Joseph Platt said: “There was no regard to this disqualification, these are serious matters.

“This was a blatant and egregious breach.”

Sheriff Platt fined Yasim

£ 290 and disqualified him from driving for six months.

Yasim was also tagged keeping him indoors from 7pm to 7am for three months.
