Animal charity in plea for more volunteers

-

THE Scottish SPCA is looking for volunteers across Tayside and Fife to help the animals in its care.

Roles are tailored to suit the interests and times of each volunteer, with some not involving direct contact with animals.

Duties could include attending and promoting fundraising activities or representing the society in the local area.

Scottish SPCA volunteer Alison Watson said: “I have been an SSPCA volunteer for eight years.

“It is great fun and I really enjoy it – I have met so many lovely people during my volunteering and the thing we have in common is our interest in animals.

“Animals are so loving and bring so much joy into our lives.

“It is very fulfilling to feel that I am able to help in any way to make their lives better.”

Another volunteer, Shirley Young, said: “I’ve been a volunteer fundraiser with the Scottish SPCA since 1994.

“I got involved with my local fundraising group following a move to a new area.

“I thought it would be a good way to meet people and this has certainly been the case.

“I am still friends with other volunteers from that original group.

“Now I’m part of a new group following another move and am lucky to have met some lovely people who I am privileged to call friends.

“I aim to continue being part of this group in the years ahead.”

Claire Burns, regional fundraising lead for the east of Scotland said: “Our volunteers make such a difference to the work we do – we literally could not do our job without them.

“A huge thank-you to every single one of our volunteers for everything you do, for your kindness and support, for your love of the animals and for giving up your time to help the Scottish SPCA.”
