Tele contest winner’s £5k getaway to Malta

- BY LOGAN HUTCHISON

A DELIGHTED Evening Telegraph reader has won an all-expenses-paid trip to sunny Malta.

Hundreds of people entered and it was Arlene Shirkey who was the lucky winner of the Evening Telegraph and Hays Travel Dundee & Broughty Ferry competition.

We caught up with her as she popped into Hays Travel Dundee to check out the details of her prize.

Arlene’s prize, worth £5,000, includes an all-inclusive family holiday to the award-winning fourstar DB Seabank Resort and Spa on the Maltese coast, as well as cash to spend while she soaks up the sunshine on the golden beaches of the Mediterranean.

Arlene will jet off from Glasgow airport with her husband and two grandchildren in October.

“When I got the phone call, I couldn’t believe it. At first, I thought it was a joke,” said the lucky winner.

“You just don’t believe these things are real.

“It is really exciting. I have never been to Malta, me and my husband usually go to Benidorm, so its a bit of a change of scenery.

“My grandchildren are very excited, they were screaming and running about when I told them.”

Associate editor Ross Logan said: “On behalf of everyone at the Tele, congratulations to Arlene on winning our fantastic holiday competition to Malta.

“At a time when almost everyone

is feeling the pinch, it’s a great that a local paper like us can help provide its readers with such a wonderful experience.

“I hope Arlene and her family have an amazing time and create memories they’ll never forget.

“This of course would not have been possible without another brilliant local business in Hays

Travel. Hays has always been a great supporter of the Tele and the city in general and I’m forever grateful to John Stewart and his team for providing such a generous prize.

“We look forward to working with them again in the future to provide another incredible getaway for one of our loyal readers.”

Mr Stewart, the franchise owner of Hays Travel Dundee & Broughty Ferry, said: “We are a local, Dundeeowned and operated business, and we want to give back to the local community with our prizes. It is fantastic.

“To have a local family win a £5,000 family holiday at this time of year is just amazing.

“It is the fact that everything is kept local that makes it even more rewarding.”
