Town hosts top archery event

-

The Scottish Archery National Indoor Championships were held in the town last month.

The Alistair McCoist Complex in Whitehills played host to the event on March 16 and 17, as archers from all over Scotland, and some from further afield, completed to become Scottish Champion in various categories.

The event was run by Fiona Hirst, Tournament Organiser at Scottish Archery, ably assisted by a team of volunteers from East Kilbride Archery Club.

And there were a couple of local medal winners over the weekend, with EKAC’s James Ross winning silver in the men’s Compound competition, while David Cawdron also took silver in the men’s Longbow event.

Lyndsay Noon, CEO of Scottish Archery said:“The Scottish Archery National Indoor Championships are always a really great event for bringing together the archery community across Scotland, but this year surpassed previous years.

“Not only were the number of participants significantly higher, with double the entries in some categories, but there was a fantastic, positive atmosphere over the weekend.

“The venue, facilities and staff at the Alistair McCoist Complex were extremely supportive and accommodating, and the location went down well with our archers who come from all over Scotland.

“It would be fantastic to work with the venue and South Lanarkshire to build a partnership for future national events, and to provide a home for one of our Clubs – East Kilbride Archery Club, who currently train in East Renfrewshire.

“Our events are heavily reliant on volunteer support, and so we would like to take this opportunity to appreciate and recognise the contribution of the volunteers within our sport.”
