Diack delivers again in derby rout
Johnny Diack hit his fifth hat-trick of the season to help EKRR to a 5-1 derby win over rivals Eaglesham on Saturday.
A fine team performance helped The Rolly go to within three points of league leaders St Patrick’s, with five games in hand over the Dumbarton side.
Diack got up and running in 35 minutes when he collected a ball on the edge of the Eaglesham penalty box and fired a strike into the top corner.
But it wasn’t until the second half that the floodgates opened.
After the restart, the Rolly went 2-0 up when James Banks fired a great ball across the face of the Eaglesham goal for Diack to slot home at the back post.
Two minutes later, Diack was the provider, lobbing the ball over the defence for Stevie Coupland to run on and smash the ball into the net.
On the hour mark Diack completed his hat-trick, firing a screamer of a strike into the net from the edge of the box.
This was followed up with Calum Steell kneeing the ball into the net, following what can only be described as a stramash in the goal mouth to bring the score to 5-0, before Eaglesham got a consolation goal in the dying minutes.
Rolly assistant coach Gary Hay said: “It was a great result, especially against what was effectively the Eaglesham first team due to the club not having any other games. As a result, we expected a tough match and though they started very well, our football was a joy to watch.
“A special mention to Jonny Diack who was outstanding. He is without doubt a fantastic centre forward and his contribution to the team makes him a special player for us.”
The Rolly now face league leaders St Patrick’s on Saturday with a 2pm kick off.
