Businesses get in fundraising swing at charity golf day

-

MORE than £2,000 has been raised for YMCA Burton at a charity golf day.

Else Solicitors held the event at Branston Golf & Country Club, where funds were raised through donations taken on the day and in sponsorship, with more cash still to come in.

On the day, 72 players enjoyed a round of golf, followed by a meal and prize giving.

A total of 18 teams took part, with prizes awarded to:

■■First place: Barton Fields Patio and Landscape Centre, captained by Trevor Standley.

■■Second place: Box-It North Midlands, captained by Sean McDonald.

■■Third place: Varlowe Industrial Services, captained by Dave Paddock.

Chris Else, managing partner at Else Solicitors, said: “It was a great day, seeing businesses, friends and colleagues come together to raise funds for a very worthy cause.

“The YMCA has their work cut out for them, now more than ever, and is under increasing pressure to deliver food parcels and keep up with the demand for the other services they provide. We are delighted to support them and help them continue their great work locally.”

As well as accommodation, the charity provides practical and emotional support and emergency food to those in crisis.

They also have four stores providing affordable furniture for families across Staffordshire and Derbyshire, including one in Swadlincote.

Paula Senior, fundraising and partnerships manager at YMCA Burton, thanked the golf day organisers from Else Solicitors and everyone who played, sponsored or helped to raise money, adding: “We had an excellent day.”
