Derbyshire could turn totally Labour, according to latest poll on General Election

CONSERVATIVES who currently hold nine of the 11 seats in Derbyshire could be facing an almost total wipe-out by Labour according to the latest Ipsos opinion poll – one of the biggest to be carried out in advance of the July 4 General Election so far.

The poll also predicts that nationally the Conservatives could end up with just 115 seats compared to Labour’s 453, Liberal Democrats 38, Reform UK three, Green Party three, SNP 15 and Plaid Cymru four.

In Derbyshire, where Labour currently hold just Chesterfield and Derby South, it is predicted that the swing from Conservatives to Labour will be enough to overturn large majorities in most of its existing seats with even the Tory stronghold of Derbyshire Dales, with a 35% majority in 2019, almost too close to call, according to Ipsos.

Amber Valley, Mid Derbyshire and South Derbyshire are all predicted to fall to Labour from Conservatives but are being called a “lean Labour” victory, while four constituencies are “strong Labour” and three are “likely Labour”, according to the poll.

None of the Derbyshire predictions indicate anything other than a Labour victory in the seats - although the third place party in all of the constituencies is calculated to be Reform UK with anything from 11% of the vote in High Peak through to 18% in Mid Derbyshire.

The Ipsos data has been collected from an online survey featuring 20,000 people and was taken after Nigel Farage announced he was returning to lead Reform UK. The poll has him winning in Clacton, Jeremy Corbyn losing in Islington North, and high-profile Conservatives such as Penny Mordaunt, Jacob Rees Mogg and Grant Shapps facing losses.

A total of 117 seats are “too close to call” nationally. Conservatives are currently second in 50 of these, Labour in 43. So small changes in the parties’ performances could change the picture further.
