Scout group is looking for volunteers

-

A SOUTH Derbyshire Scout group is looking for volunteers.

The 1st Gresley Group has grown since 2022 and they are mainly looking for volunteers to become involved with the Scouts (boys and girls aged 10 to 14).

Some of the activities the Scouts get involved with include camping, cooking, circus skills, DIY, fire safety, martial arts, photography pioneering and water activities.

Catherine, an adult volunteer, said “Do you want pride and satisfaction; a sense of purpose; opportunities to discover new things; to share your knowledge and experience; and do you have willingness to get stuck in?

“It’s great to see young people grow, mature and develop whilst they are in the Scout section.

“When I see some of the young people move to Explorers (boys and girls aged 14 to 17), I always feel that I have been involved in helping them to shape their futures.

“As the young people move through the sections they will learn skills for life.

“These include confidence, decision making, leadership, problem solving, resilience and teamwork.”

Daniel, lead volunteer for the group, said: “We provide you with training when you need it, we’re very flexible, we have lots of fun and it’s brilliant when a parent says to you, ‘Thank you for everything you do, my child really enjoys trying new activities and building friendships’.

“If you would like to volunteer in any capacity, whether it is administration, maintenance, working with younger children or as a trustee, please get in touch.

“Whatever time you can give, we will find you a role that you will enjoy.”
