MORE than 70 vendors will travel to a Derbyshire field next week for an action-packed family weekend festival.

Tansley Food and Drink Festival at Tansley Crossroads, near Matlock, is an ever-growing bi-yearly event that sees dozens of stalls and activities dotted around a field in the heart of Derbyshire’s countryside.

The festival will take place on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, between 10am and 6pm.

Shaun Hogg, who organises the festival with the help of his family, says it is “massively important” for family events like this to take place amid the cost of living crisis.

He said: “We have tried to pack as many stalls and attractions into this festival as possible and we are passionate about making our events the best they can be.

“For the older ones, we have cocktail bars, live music and food from all over the world and for the kids, we have a seemingly endless list of activities planned.

“At previous events, the BMX stunt riders have gone down excellently with the kids, as well as all the animal handling activities there will also be a dog show which is going to be great fun.”

Early tickets are priced at £7.50 for anyone over the age of five – with tickets on the gate £10.

A DENTIST is celebrating her retirement after 27 years of looking after the people of Swadlincote’s teeth.

Catherine Owen, known as Katie, marked her final day at Hughes and Owen Dental Care, on Thursday, May 30 with presents and flowers from her colleagues.

Having qualified from Birmingham University in 1986, Katie spent two years working in hospitals before starting at Hughes and Owen in 1997.

Katie, 62, is part of the family business having married into the Owen side of the practice – her father in law being one of the founders and her husband working in the Burton practice.

“It’s been tough sometimes but it’s been fun a lot of the time,” said Katie.

“All the dentists here have been really supportive, they’ve been a great team, as have the nurses and all the reception staff too. They’re a really good bunch of people so I’ll definitely miss them.

“A big thank you to all my patients for putting up with me for all these years. I’d like to thank them for all their kind wishes and a big thank you to all the staff, the reception staff. They’ve been brilliant.”

New dentist Nabeel Hussain will be taking over from Katie, who has lots of plans for her retirement.

She wants to visit her sister in Australia and go on sailing holidays amongst a packed list of things to do.

Katie said: “I’m quite excited actually. I have 27 years here, and they’ve been great years. Everybody’s been lovely.

“I’ve been trying to make sure people look after their teeth properly and are happy with their teeth too.

“I’m a grandmother now so I’ve got a little grandson to look after. I’m hoping to spend more time in the garden as well as doing a lot of fishing and walking the dog and generally not working.”
