Now pro-Palestine activists turn up at Keir’s front garden
RISHI Sunak last night warned he ‘will not tolerate’ MPs being targeted at home after pro-Palestinian activists protested outside Sir Keir Starmer’s house.
Three members of the Youth Demand group, which sprayed Labour HQ with red paint on Monday, demonstrated outside the property yesterday afternoon demanding Labour commits to an arms sale ban on Israel.
The activists – who were subsequently arrested – draped a banner reading ‘Starmer – Stop the Killing’ on the Labour leader’s front hedge. The group also placed kids’ shoes representing the deaths of children in Gaza along the path leading to the front door of the north-London property.
Last night the Prime Minister said: ‘I don’t care what your politics are, no MP should be harassed at their own home. We cannot and will not tolerate this.’
It comes amid heightened concerns over the security of MPs, many of whom have faced threats over their stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Pro- Palestinian activists recently targeted the family home of Tory ex-minister Tobias Ellwood, while fellow Conservative MP Mike Freer suffered an arson attack on his constituency office.
Youth Demand is linked to fellow activist group Just Stop Oil, which has been heavily criticised over its call for eco-zealots to target MPs in their homes as part of protests against new North Sea oil and gas licences.
Protester Ella Ward, a 21-yearold environmental science student from Leeds, said: ‘In normal circumstances it would be seen as crossing a line to show up at someone’s house, but these are not normal circumstances.’
