INTERIOR DESIGN MASTERS: THE FINAL 8PM, BBC1

★★★★

The two finalists – look away now if you haven’t caught up – head to Blenheim Palace, where they will go head to head for a professional design contract. Matt and Roisin will be transforming holiday lodges in the grounds of the spectacular Baroque country house near Oxford. Roisin has undergone quite the transformation herself, starting the contest having only worked on her mum’s house. Matt, meanwhile, has a degree in architectural design and, at 25, he’s the youngest in the competition. As their lodges take shape, one thing is certain: their approaches are polar opposites, and this will be a close call for Michelle Ogundehin and guest judge Jonathan Adler. It’s also beyond doubt that presenter Alan Carr really enjoys raiding the dressing-up box.

FOR THE LOVE OF DOGS WITH ALISON HAMMOND

8PM, ITV1 ★★★

Alison has been on a sharp learning curve since joining this show. If she thought it was going to be all playtime and cuddles, she’s realised by this third episode that spending time with rescue animals is unpredictable, messy and, at times, incredibly sad. Alison gets the tone just right and, while it was never going to be easy to take over from the much-loved Paul O’grady, we’ve got to hand it to Alison for keeping Paul’s caring and compassionate spirit alive. Tonight, she trains a litter of rambunctious puppies, meets a timid German shepherd, and nurtures a pug who’s well on the road to recovery.

ALDI’S NEXT BIG THING 8PM, CH4 ★★★

We’ve become a nation of more adventurous cooks, and the world food aisle in our supermarkets is increasingly well-stocked with products we’d likely never have heard of even a decade ago. It’s world foods that vie for a coveted sales spot on Aldi’s shelves this week, and it’s a lesson in the weird and the wonderful. There are pitches for a Filipino ketchup made with bananas, a DIY Turkish kebab marinade, a Jamaican vegan ready meal, a fiery ‘love dust’ and, from Nigeria, a street food delicacy called puff puff that is described as ‘like doughnuts, but better’. That’s it – on the description alone, we’re sold.

THE YORKSHIRE VET 8PM, CH5 ★★★

Animals need blood just like humans do, so support your local pet blood drive! Tonight, we meet the canine volunteers doing their bit and hopefully getting a biscuit after their donation. Peter Wright comes to the aid of Elvis, a newborn donkey unable to feed from his mum, and at the animal hospital, we follow complex spinal surgery on a French bulldog who became suddenly paralysed.

MICHAEL PALIN IN NIGERIA 9PM, CH5

★★★★ Hold on tight, Michael, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The roads take a turn for the worse in the final leg of his journey through Nigeria. Once off the dust cloud that is the gridlocked road to Benin City, Michael (above) is met by another cacophony of sound – and is ‘slightly ambushed’ by a local woman who delivers an unplanned, unstaged reminder of the bad feeling that remains over the Benin Bronzes, artefacts stolen from the city and currently in the British Museum. She’s angry, but Michael manages to charm her, just as he has TV audiences at home for decades.
