Kemi: I won’t shut up about Labour’s divisive identity politics agenda

- By Michael Knowles Home Affairs Editor

KEMI Badenoch has vowed she will never be silent about identity politics.

The Business Secretary told bosses Labour wanted to divide Britain into “black/white, rich/ poor, old/young”.

And in a swipe at Doctor Who actor David Tennant, who targeted her at last week’s British LGBT Awards, she told the British Chambers of Commerce: “Their vision of the future economy is one that micro-manages your business to meet their political objectives.

“That includes the divisive agenda of identity politics.

“I’m never going to shut up about that, no matter how many Doctor Whos say so.

Mr Tennant, 53, had suggested at an awards show that he wanted a world where the Equalities Minister “doesn’t exist any more” and that she should “shut up”.

Ms Badenoch wants to ban transgender women from women’s toilets as part of her pledge to defend single-sex

spaces. Asked how she coped with being attacked by people like Mr Tennant, she said it was not an easy thing to do.

She added the actor’s comments were “just the tip of the iceberg”.

Ms Badenoch also said the abuse received by MPs put people off wanting to go into politics.

She said: “Bricks through our windows, death threats, we’ve lost two MPs, my colleague Mike Freer’s office burned to the ground. All for 80 grand a year.

“Most people say, ‘No thanks I don’t want that, I don’t want to be shouted at in the street’.”

Ms Badenoch added: “The real problem we have is that a lot of people do not want to go into politics any more, which is opening the space for all sorts of people who are not serious and can be a danger to politics generally. And that goes for every party.”
