Singer Anne-Marie on partying with Ed Sheeran and why it’s important to keep it real
How do you stay authentic on social media?
It’s too hard and cringe to have a persona – the only way I’m able to stay on social media is by being as real as possible.
What’s the wildest night out you’ve ever had?
I had a crazy day and night on a boat in Australia once. But my craziest parties are with Rudimental and Ed Sheeran – he’s a great host. He’s a professional at it but also knows when to call it a night. I can never stop, I keep the party going.
Tell us your most unpopular opinion?
I don’t like wearing black. It’s boring. My manager wears black all the time and has been trying to persuade me to for the past five years, but I don’t think it would suit who I am.
What would you eat for your last meal on earth?
A Philadelphia sandwich with white bread and no butter. It’s my favourite thing ever.
I grew up on them but I’m a vegan now, so it would be a treat.
Dream dinnerparty guests?
My favourite people in the industry have got to be there – David
Guetta, Marshmello and Ed Sheeran. Then I’d also have Rihanna, Morgan Freeman and Louis Theroux. We could eat Philadelphia sandwiches!
What’s your biggest extravagance?
I’ve been buying a lot of plants recently. I started the year with two and now I have 25. My living room is the only place that gets any proper light, so it’s like a mini jungle.
When are you happiest?
When I cry. Not just happy tears – I love the release of emotion. I can be an extreme person, so my emotions tend to be heightened and I get really happy, really sad or really angry. I feel great when I cry, it’s that sense of relief.
What’s your pet peeve?
Bad manners. If I hold a door open for someone and they don’t say thank you,
I normally just shout “Thank you!” back at them.
One piece of advice you would give your teenage self?
Not everyone will like you and you don’t have to care. I spent too much time pleasing others. Now I’m much happier and less worried about what people think of me. If you had a dating profile, what would you write in it?
“Don’t bother!” Anne-Marie’s new single, To Be Young, is out now
