Cwm claim away point

-

CWMAMMAN United claimed a 2-2 draw at Giants Grave in the Macron West Wales Premier League.

Cwm beat their opponents 3-0 at home a month ago, but Grave are a different proposition at home.

Cwm introduced new signings Cam Berry, Jack Sullivan and Max Coley for their debuts, while Evan Gibbs returned.

Cwm started well and they went ahead after an excellent corner to the far post was deflected into the net by Grave defender Chris Mahoney.

The game continued at a ferocious pace with both sides creating good chances and Cwm’s Elliot Smith saw his shot scrape the post with the keeper beaten. Nathan Wickham also went close.

In the 34th minute Grave were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Cwm penalty area and Scott Tomlinson cleverly steered it through the wall and past goalkeeper Callum Andrews to level matters.

Cwm hoped to start the second half strongly, but disaster struck in the 47th minute when a penalty was awarded for a push as they defended a long ball. Andrews got a hand to it, but Tomlinson’s strike had done just enough on it to give the home side the lead.

Cwm were looking dangerous with Ryan Cole and sub Jackson Brereton seeing more possession and a brilliant ball from Max Coley saw the ever-dangerous Taylor Smith fire home from a tight angle to bring the scores level again.

Cwm thought the breakthrough had come when a penalty was given for a trip on Elliot Smith, but the referee changed his mind and gave a free-kick on the edge of the box, which was subsequently fired over the bar.

On Saturday, Cwm host Dafen Welfare.
