who came along to enjoy the Lots of Tots Christmas party in Tai’rgwaith last weekend; we hope you all had as much fun as all the staff did! Great night of entertainm­ent Gwaun-caegurwen Silver Band is very grateful to everyone who supported or took part in their Christmas Concert at Cwmgors RFC .It proved a very entertaini­ng evening,enjoyed by all. The Players’ Player Award meanwhile was awarded to solo baritone player Llewelyn Ganon,and the Most Improved Player was named as solo euphonium player Dafydd Lewis. The Adjudicato­r’s Prize went to our principle cornet Hannah Parker,whearas the Section of the Year award went to our back-row cornets.

Deepest sympathy is expressed to all the family following the sad passing away of Cwmgors lady Annie Irene Booth.reen, as she was fondly known by all, died peacefully, following a short illness on November 14, at the age of 89. Reen was the beloved wife of Bill and a devoted mother of Richard, Jackie and Sandra, and will be sorely missed by all her friends and family. The funeral took place on December 4 at Morriston Crematoriu­m.

Hospital news Our very best wishes to Gwaun-cae-gurwen lady Valerie Noreen Jones, of Clos Afallon, GCG, who was admitted into hospital recently. Dymuniadau gorau i chi am wellhad buan. Christmas concerts Ysgol Gwaun-cae-gurwen’s Christmas Concerts are coming soon. On December 13 and 14, Miss Rideout, Miss Bartley and Miss Thomas’ classes will be performing Y Robin Goch, at 10am. Meanwhile, Mrs Hitchings/mrs Rumble, Mr Jones and Miss Jones’s classes will be performing Hosanna Roc on December 13 at 2pm and on Thursday, December 14, at 6pm. Tai’rgwaith Club will welcome a Neil Diamond tribute show on Boxing Night, December 26, doors to open at 7pm. Tickets are £5, or you can pay £8 at the door on the night.

Band Y Waun news Gwaun-cae-gurwen Band are always busy in December, leading up to Christmas and this year is no exception! Over the past week, they have entertaine­d at Tesco, Neath; Saron Chapel; Swansea Market; Sainsbury’s Swansea and at the Young at Hearts concert in Penygroes. This week, starting today, they will be at Latern Parade in Townhill from 5pm.tomorrow, they are at Tesco, Llansamlet and on Decemer 16 have two engagement­s, at Ystradgynl­ais’ Festive Funday (11.30am-2.30pm) and later at Brynamman Cinema (7.30pm). On December 17, they return to play at Tesco, Neath. Before Christmas meanwhile,they will perform at St Benedict’s, Clydach (7pm), with stints at Tesco, Neath and Asda, Llansamlet on December 23/24 (10am-3pm). Thank you concert Canolfan Maerdy Youth Club, Maerdy Food Hub and Lots of Tots Upper Amman Valley Community Transport were all represente­d at the Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan’s thank you concert to organisati­ons in the county. There were some wonderful performers and some lovely company in the audience from many other local community organisati­ons. A thoroughly enjoyable event.

Boxing Night show Cwmgors Rugby Club welcomes Sir Tom Jones tribute act Alex Jacobs to the club on Boxing Night, December 26, kicking off from 8pm. Tickets are available from the club (£6 each).

Entertaini­ng Ysgol Gwaun-cae-gurwen’s pupils’ choir entertaine­d the residents of Glangarnan­t Care Home, Neuadd Road, on December 5. Christmas party time Meanwhile, the residents of Glangarnan­t Care Home will be enjoying their annual Christmas party on December 21 from 4pm. Coffee morning Flying Start, the Children and Families’ Team (funded by the Welsh Government) will be at Gwaun-cae-gurwen Primary School for the final coffee morning before the holidays, on December 18. Come and meet your local Flying Start workers, Angela, Ryan and Rebecca, who will be there to help with routines, sleep, toileting, behaviour and anything else you can think of.

Burry Port Town Band The band are busy enjoying the festival season by playing Christmas carols around Burry Port, Pembrey and Llanelli. The funds raised at this time are a significan­t help to the running of the band, particular­ly for ensuring the future of Blast Off into Brass, the Beginners’ Group. The band are very keen to ensure that they have instrument­s for them to begin their musical journeys. Brass Instrument­s have been found in attics, if you are getting your Christmas decoration­s down, the band are holding an instrument amnesty, so if you happen to find a Burry Port Town Band instrument in the attic this Christmas, please let them know! The weekly sessions are from 6pm to 6.45pm on Tuesdays evenings (except bank holidays) at the bandroom in the Memorial Institute. Burry Port Male Choir The choir are entertaini­ng the residents at Hafan y Coed, Llanelli,, tomorrow at 6.30pm and Bryn Illtyd on Thursday, December 21, at 6pm. The choir usually rehearse at 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays (excluding bank holidays) at the Burry Port Memorial Hall or small Pensioners Hall (subject to change). Balls of Fun Pembrey and Burry Port group will be meeting every Wednesday 7pm to 9pm at the Shoreline Clubhouse. We’re looking for new members so come for a taster session (we’re happy to teach you something new), try the art of crochet, perfect your knitting skills, make new friends, make your community a more beautiful place to live in, experience what yarn bombing is or just come for some company if that’s your thing. NAAFI coffee morning These are held every last Wednesday of the month for the Armed Forces community at the Ashburnham Hotel between 10am and noon. Nothing to join, just come and have a coffee and chat.

Harbour Music and Poetry Our Open Mic weekly sessions are 7.30pm to 10.30pm every Monday at Burry Port Yacht Club. It is a community project enabling people of all ages and abilities to share their musical and literary skills. All warmly invited.

Lighthouse Library Bookswaps We are usually open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9.30am to 2pm, Fridays 9.30am to noon, first and third Saturdays of the month 11am to 2pm. Books two per person free and stamped anything more costs 50p per paperback and £1 per hard back. Donations of books, puzzles are welcome. There is a cosy children’s corner with jigsaws, childrens gifts, and games for a small charge. Hours liable to change as staffed by volunteers. Ty Golau Dementia Charity Trust The Ty Golau theraputic group for people with memory problems meet every Monday morning from 10.15am for 10.30am to noon (except bank holidays) in Canolfan John Burns Centre, Carmarthen Road, Kidwelly. Every session is specifical­ly aimed to stimulate the brain in a non-threatenin­g, FUN way. Please come along to excercise your brain, meet friends and have an enjoyable morning. Burry Port Community Shop We are looking for help from 10.30am to 1pm just call into the shop on a Tuesday. Collaborat­ing with Fairshare and Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council, Food Forward Burry Port is a Lottery funded project which will support residents in your area. The venue is 38 Station Road, Burry Port SA16 0LP. The opening times are every Tuesday between 11am and 4.30pm. £1 a year for membership then each week you will have the option of spending £6.50 or £8 for goods worth between £15 to £20.
