Busy end of June for Machrihani­sh golfers

The final two weeks of

June have been busy at Machrihani­sh Golf Club, which hosted its June Medal, Gents’ Texas Scramble and Lyle Barr Memorial Quaich competitio­ns, in addition to the Catherine Armour Memorial Texas Scramble Open (see back page).

The club’s gents and lady members competed in their June Medal competitio­ns on Saturday June 22.

June Medal (Championsh­ip Course – Strokeplay): Gents Division 1 (White Tees): 1 Stuart Campbell 70-3=67; Gents Division 2 (White Tees): 1 Cameron McGeachy 83-21=62; Gents Division 3 (White Tees): 1 Richard Tavendale 106-26=80; Ladies Handicap Section (Red Tees): 1 Maggie MacArthur 11833=85; Gents 65+ Handicap Section (Yellow Tees): 1 David Allen 90-18=72. June Medal (Pans Course – Strokeplay): Ladies Handicap Section

(Red Tees): 1 Lorna Ralston 77-12=65.

The following day, on Sunday June 23, players returned to the Championsh­ip Course, this time for the Gents Texas Scramble.

1 S Dott, D Renton, I Reid, L Wotherspoo­n 52.0;

2 J Rennie, S MacMillan, D Johnstone, I Johnstone 53.0.

The next weekend, on Saturday June 29, the Lyle Barr Memorial Quaich Strokeplay competitio­n was held on the Championsh­ip Course.

Gents Handicap Section (White Tees): 1

Stewart Blue 90-22=68 (BIH), 2 R J Borthwick 82-14=68, 3 Stuart Nice 76-7=69. Gents Scratch Section (White Tees): 1 Dean Ratcliff 71, 2 Stuart Campbell 75, 3 Lee Mathieson 76. Ladies Handicap Section (Red Tees): 1 Maggie MacArthur 107-33=74. Gents 65+ Handicap Section (Yellow Tees): 1 David Allen 83-17=66. Spot prize: Longest drive at the 1st hole: Tommy Martin.

The same day, the Centenary Trophy Strokeplay contest was held on the Pans Course.

Ladies Handicap Section (Red Tees): 1 Lorna Ralston 75-11=64, 2 Catherine Dobbie 85-15=70.
