Sibley sees U’s as club on the rise after move to Oxford
LOUIE Sibley feels he has joined a club “on the up” after signing for Oxford United following his exit from Derby County.
The midfielder has signed a long-term deal with the U’s after deciding not to pen a new contract with the Rams after being offered fresh terms at the end of last season.
Sibley ended the season impressively for the Rams.
He played at left wing-back and contributed a vital assist in the 1-0 away win against Cambridge United near the end of the season.
He will now be reunited with his former Rams team-mates when Paul Warne’s side travels to Oxford in October for a Championship clash.
Speaking about his move to the U’s, Sibley said: “As soon as I knew of the interest, I just wanted to get this deal done.
“When I walk around the place, I get a feeling that it’s a club that is on the up.
“It’s a big decision for me but I can’t wait to get started now. I want to be a midfielder in those areas where I can get on the ball and be in the pockets.
“I feel I’ve got that quality to drive past players and I want to give everything for the shirt.”
Oxford head coach Des Buckingham says Sibley had been an “important” contributor for the Rams since coming up through the ranks from the under-eights, going on to make more than 150 senior appearances.
“Louie has been a very important player for his club since progressing into the first team and we are delighted to bring someone of his quality into our group,” said Buckingham.
“To get a player that is still at such a young age and with so much experience in the Football League is hugely exciting for us as a club.
“We believe Louie will be a very positive addition to our group and will help us achieve our goals next season and beyond.
“We hope he can continue to develop as a player and make a significant impact going forward.”
