Walton on a roll as early wickets set up a victory

-

WALTON on Trent are coming to terms with Division Two after promotion and secured another comfortable win on Saturday, by five wickets at home to Elvaston.

After they chose to bowl, excellent spells from Dan Russell (3-19 from 10 overs) and Noah Siede (2-11 from seven overs) saw the visitors on the back foot at 36-6.

A stand of 62 between veteran Shahid Khan (23) and Dave Jacobs (39) made the score a little more respectable but Nick Campion got Jacobs and ended the innings with two more quick wickets to collect 3-19 from 5.3 overs, the final score 124 all out.

There were two early wickets when Walton replied and no especially big partnerships but the two or three reasonable scores to ensure victory were there through Tom Oomer (33), Freddie Shreeve (20) and David Preston, who saw them home with 31 not out alongside captain Javid Oomer in the 41st over.

The result has lifted Walton into the top half of the table.

Not so Tutbury, who are just above the bottom three after a third straight defeat, going down by six wickets at home to Ockbrook & Borrowash seconds.

They were put in and opener Muhammad Saad made 52 from 77 balls.

But he lost three partners quickly before adding 60 for the fourth wicket with Ben Halliday, who made 44.

Callum Mason also made 36 from 34 balls as they were bowled out for 181.

A wicket each for Halliday and George Morgan gave Tutbury hope but Jack Smith (39) and Oliver Boyer (56) got Ockbrook to 130 before the next wicket fell and they were within 11 of victory by the time Boyer was out.

It has been tough going for Hartshorne in Division Three South, seeing three of their six matches cancelled owing to ground conditions so far.

But they got their first win on the board at the weekend, travelling to Etwall and bowling them out for 82, of which Keith Cheetham scored 25.

Opening bowler Jimmy Goodman did much of the early damage, taking 4-17 from 10 overs, all bowled, as Etwall slid to 36-5.

After a partial recovery, Jack Ashcroft came on to take 3-15 in five overs, Muhammad Sohail adding 2-19 and Faren Price taking the last wicket.

Hartshorne lost five wickets getting the runs but Jake Redfern’s 34 was decisive.

Winshill won a thriller at home to Chellaston by three runs after posting 216-4.

Steve Watson (61) and Danyal Rehman (41) were the main contributors for Winshill.

Opener Bilal Ali’s 83 was the big knock in Chellaston’s reply but when he was seventh out at 197 they fell just short at 213-9.
