HORNSBY, FREDERICK JAMES: Lance Corporal, 1st Battalion Northampto­nshire Regiment, died on 14th June, 1944 aged 25. Son of Walter and Marion Hornsby, of Woodville.

VINE, NORMAN ALEXANDER: Private, 8th Battalion Parachute Regiment A.A.C. Killed in action on 16th June 1944, age 20. Son of Jack and Anne Vine of Mona Road, Burton. Private Vine was one of the first paratroops to be dropped in

Normandy the night before D-day and in a letter to his parents, he describes how he joined the main invading force after four days of isolation.

PALMER, EDWIN LEONARD: Private 10th Battalion Durham Light Infantry died on 19th June 1944, age 19. Son of Frank and Minnie Palmer of Rowton Street, Horninglow. Reported as missing, but later confirmed as being killed in action.

ADAMS (D.F.C), ROBERT: Flight Lieutenant 630 Squadron RAFVR. Killed in action on 22nd June 1944 aged 32. Son of John and Edith Alice Adams, husband of Louise Adams, of Rosemount Road, Burton. He was awarded the Distinguis­hed Flying Cross in June 1943 for conspicuou­s bravery on operationa­l flights over Germany and occupied territorie­s. Robert Adams aircraft was lost without trace during a raid on a synthetic oil plant at Wesseling, Germany. His hometown was High Wycombe and he came to Burton before the war. EYLEY, AARON: Private, 1st Battalion Northampto­nshire Regiment, died on 23rd June 1944 aged 20. Son of Mr & Mrs George Eyley of Church Gresley,
