Tutbury are up and running but loss for Walton

TUTBURY enjoyed a good start to their Division Two season with 48-run home win over Elvaston, although it did not necessaril­y look like they had enough runs when they were bowled out for 135 in 31.4 overs.

Gareth Lonie top-scored with 53 from 67 overs.

Two early wickets for Callum Mason set Elvaston’s reply back and veteran opener Shahid Khan was run out for 13.

As Elvaston slumped to 41-7 there was no way back and they were bowled out for 89.

Mason finished with 3-21, George Morgan and Lonie took two each and there was one each for Ben Halliday and Karl Chadfield.

Walton on Trent’s first game after promotion endedv in a tight two-wicket defeat away tov Sandiacre Town seconds.

They could not handle seasoned seamer John Jordison, who took 6-22 from 10 overs as they were bowled out for 131, James Blackwell making 48 and

Javid Oomer 43.

There was hope when they reduced Sandiacre’s reply to 40-5, Dan Russell taking 3-31 and Arran Oomer 2-40.

Javid Oomer also took two wickets but Marius Conwayjone­s made the difference for Sandiacre, hitting 51 as they got home in the 41st over.

Only two games were possible in Division Three South, Rolleston seconds hitting a strong 254-5 away to Alvaston & Boulton seconds, Ihsaan Nadeem scoring 79, Brandon Ridgeway 44 and Jack Watkins 35.

Steven Barry took 5-30 and Ridgeway 4-19 as A&B were bowled out for 101.

Alrewas seconds won by eight wickets at home to Etwall after bowling them out for 133, in which Tom Stewart took 4-15 and Ollie Broadway 3-15.

Jamie Goodwin anchored the reply with 62 not out from 82 balls and his partnershi­p of 82 with Josh Jones (41) for the second wicket was decisive.
