Brentwood’s dozen seals the ton-mark

-

BRENTWOOD need to win their last five games to be in position to meet the pre-season goal of promotion and reverse the disappointment of relegation from last season - and Saturday’s 12-1 success over lowly Southend was a good start.

Goal difference may come into it and Brentwood became the first team in the league this year to hit the 100 goal mark, the next best on 93 is the top of the table Chelmsford seconds side.

To be fair this game was as straightforward as the scoreline suggests. Southend did little to upset a determined Brentwood side keen to get this promotion push back on the rails. The goals were fairly equally shared out and with an even split of six in either half. The pick of the goals came from an incredible effort from captain George Lilley who put on a captain’s and man of the match performance.

Lilley was domineering in the midfield and controlled the game. An incredible effort and excellent goal topped it all off.

Andy Turner did most to improve his goal tally with four. There was some debate with

Jacob MacDonnell on one goal as to who got the final touch.

McDonnell being the only forward not to cash in. Tristan Barnes and Alex Lewcock made sure the defenders got on the scoresheet. Lilley netted two as did Derry Mager,w hile there was one apiece for Tom Cresswell and Arron Doyle.

Brentwood will now focus on getting a good training session in on Wednesday start preparations for Basildon next Saturday.

With Basildon bottom of the league, whilst a win won’t be taken for granted, but the team will surely be pushing again for an edge in the goal difference column.
