Braintree knocked out – Essex Senior Cup round-up

THERE will be a different club lifting the Essex Senior Cup this season as current holders Braintree Town were beaten 3-1 in the fourth round by Isthmian League Premier Division side Hashtag United, who are looking to win the silverware for the first time.

With the quarter-final and semifinal draws having already taken place, a recent flurry of matches has seen the competitio­n catch up a little after some wintry weather. Hashtag defeated another

National League South side, Aveley, in the last eight, running out 1-0 winners with a late goal. The Millers had previously secured a 2-0 victory against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Last season’s runners-up, Concord Rangers, emerged as 5-0 winners against Grays Athletic in Round Four, but were beaten 2-0 by Isthmian North side Redbridge in the quarter-finals. The Motormen added to their Senior Cup scalps after they beat highflying National League South side, Chelmsford City, on penalties in round four.

Elsewhere, League Two side Colchester United are into the semi-finals after beating

Buckhurst Hill 5-1 at the JobServe Community Stadium. Those two teams had progressed past Walthamsto­w and Canvey Island respective­ly in Round Four.

In the only quarter-final tie still to be played, Maldon & Tiptree will face Little Oakley, with a semi-final clash against Redbridge the prize for the winners. Maldon were victorious against Witham Town, while Little Oakley beat Brentwood Town.
