Conscript jumps from building

- MANIT SANUBBOON

A conscript was seriously injured after jumping from a building inside a military camp in Prachin Buri in a suspected suicide attempt.

His family believes that he had been repeatedly bullied by seniors in the camp and that this was the cause of his suicide bid.

News about what happened at the military camp in Prachin Buri went viral on social media yesterday.

The incident took place on Thursday evening when the 22-year-old conscript, named Prakit (surname withheld), attempted to kill himself by jumping off a building inside Khai Chakkaphong military camp in Prachin Buri.

According to his younger sister, the incident occurred at 6pm, but her family received a call informing them about it at 9pm.

She revealed that before jumping, she received red-flag text messages such as “Help me” and “My whole body is shaking because of fear right now” from her brother, saying he was being harassed at the camp.

Pvt Prakit is receiving treatment at Chakrapong Camp Hospital and was visited by his mother and Maj Gen Pairat Kaewsri, chief of the 12th military district at Khai Chakkaphong, yesterday.

The doctor who is treating Pvt Prakit said he was still in a critical condition, with his brain swollen from bleeding. He was still unconscious, but his pulse rate was stable, said the doctor.

Pvt Prakit’s sister said her family is eager to find out what actually happened to him, while Maj Gen Pairat confirmed he will launch an investigation into the matter, and the hospital will take care of Pvt Prakit to the best of its ability.
