Six of the best for Felipe Orts
CYCLIST Felipe Orts from Villajoyosa won his sixth Spanish national cyclo-cross championship title last Sunday in Amurrio (northern Spain).
His win means he equals José Luis Talamillo and David Seco, who have both recorded six titles.
This was an important victory for the local cyclist, who is in his debut year with a new team, and after just two weeks has managed to retain the red jersey.
At the starting signal Orts was relegated to fifth place but he passed those in front of him with dizzying speed, and at the end of first lap managed to cross the finish line with a lead of 24 seconds over the chasing group.
Of his victory the cyclist said: “I really enjoyed it, the route was beautiful and very hard. Yesterday the circuit was drying out but luckily today it rained and the track was in ideal conditions.”
Villajoyosa mayor, Marcos Zaragoza said: “We are very proud of Felipe's talents, ability and effort. His sporting values deserve all the respect and admiration of the people of Villajoyosa and that is why we are supporting him to the fullest.”
The town hall is the main sponsor of his team and will officially present his new kit in the coming days.
Next up, Felipe takes part in the penultimate stage of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup, which takes place in Benidorm this Sunday.
