Paying homage to Indonesia’s rich tapestry of spices, Spice Island Distilling Co. has garnered acclaim and a coveted reputation through its distinguished and authentic distilling process. Following a series of impressive wins in the first quarter of 2024, including East Indies Banda Fine Spiced Negroni Gin’s gold medal at the 2024 World Spirits Awards, this time the distillery’s East Indies Gin adds to its growing list of accolades with a commendable showing at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) 2024.

Facing stiff competition from over 4,000 global distillery entries, the Bali-based distillery rose to the challenge at the most prestigious and longest-running spirits competition. The East Indies Bali Pomelo Pink Gin and East Indies Archipelago Dry Gin emerged triumphant, bringing home gold and solidifying the brand’s quality on the global scene.

Distilled in small batches on the shores of Keramas Beach, Bali, with German-made stills, these are the three awardwinning East Indies Gins.

East Indies Bali Pomelo Pink Gin

The pink gin embodies Bali essence with ripe pomelo, a citrus fruit found across Southeast Asia and particularly beloved in Bali, intertwining with the luscious sweetness of Bedugul strawberries. The grapefruit and juniper lend a refreshing zest to the taste, while hibiscus flowers add a touch of floral intrigue. Delicate floral notes dance on the nose, leading to a palate bursting with ripe berries, citrus, and a hint of liquorice, as affirmed by the judges. The texture is smooth and caressing, gradually unfolding to reveal a characterful finish that lingers on the tongue.

East Indies Archipelago Dry Gin

This dry gin celebrates the authentic flavours of Indonesia with kecombrang, also known as torch ginger flower, taking centre stage and infusing the gin with bright citrus notes. Complementing its refreshing nature is the warmth of Batak Andaliman pepper, resulting in a well-balanced, smooth-textured and light floral gin. The aromatic profile boasts a unique interplay of woody spice and juniper, and ends in a drying finish with a lingering impression of pine and oak.

East Indies Banda Fine Spiced Negroni Gin

Through its unique Negroni rendition, East Indies Gin pays homage to the storied legacy of Banda Island and its prized spices, mace and nutmeg. Once the most coveted spices throughout Europe, these botanicals find new life in this exceptional gin. The spirit boasts a robust character, specifically designed to elevate the classic Negroni cocktail for those who appreciate daring and bold flavours.
