STEPPING DOWN
ARRON REZ L. BONDOC
Vice President Sara V. Duterte just recently tenders her resignation as the Secretary of the Department of Education and as stated in her resignation letter, she is stepping down as the DepEd Secretary but she still continues her post as the Vice President of the country.
This news shocked all people specially from the Department of Education. Queries rose such as ‘Who will be the next DepEd Secretary?’, ‘What will happen to the new MATATAG Curriculum? Will it push through? and ‘What is the main reason behind her resignation?’
Whatever her reason is, we need to respect her decision. Meanwhile, during her press briefing, VP Sarah clarified and answered some of this question except for stating the main reason of her resignation.
VP Sarah promised that she will turn over everything during a one-month grace period to DepEd before leaving the office.
Analysts say that, being the Vice President of the Philippines and at the same time DepEd Secretary can be describes as ‘marriage of inconvenience’. It is difficult to have two posts at the same time.
Still, the Department of Education should move on, continue the planas and the waving MATATAG Curriculum for the government and the department already allocated and spent millions of budget with this new undertaking. It is not really practical if it will be changed again by whoever replaces the resigned DepEd Secretary.
Let us just hope and pray for a more progressive nation and a more resilient educational system in the country.
