Bus rider discards shabu at checkpoint

-

DAVAO CITY — Police operatives are hunting down a man who allegedly tossed out a box of shabu worth about P14.4 million at a checkpoint in Barangay Lacson, Calinan District here on Wednesday afternoon.

The unidentified man, described by the authorities as wearing a black shirt, sunglasses, and jeans, was among the passengers of a Rural Tour bus that stopped for a routine screening at the checkpoint.

Task Force Davao (TFD) reported that while the passengers were getting off the bus for a routine inspection, the suspect threw a box from the bus window and left the area unnoticed.

The other passengers and local residents who saw the box panicked, thinking that it would explode. But when authorities opened the box, they saw white crystalline substance inside.

The police said the box contained suspected shabu weighing approximately 900 grams and with a street value of approximately P14,400 million.

TFD commander Col. Darren Comia, who ordered his men to hunt for the suspect, commended the unwavering dedication of his personnel and Davao City Police Office praising their diligence in carrying out their assigned duties.

“The interception of illicit substances at our city’s border control points highlights the effectiveness of our stringent checkpoint operations in preventing the entry of illegal items. This underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of every Davaoeño,” said Comia.

All seized evidence is securely held by the police pending further investigation and legal proceedings.
