Al Bashayer, Nizwa to open third edition of Oman Credit Basketball Cup

- AHMED AL KAABI MUSCAT, SEPT 12

Al Bashayer and Nizwa teams will open the third edition of the 2024 Oman Credit Basketball Cup matches in a game at the secondary hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Friday. Four clubs are participating in the tournament: Al Bashayer, Seeb, Nizwa and Ahli Sidab.

The Competitions Committee had decided to postpone the tournament’s first match, which was scheduled between Al Bashayer and Ahli Sidab, due to its coinciding with the national football team’s match against South Korea.

The first round will resume on Sunday, September 15, with a match between Al Bashayer and Seeb, champions of the second edition. The games will continue on September 17 with a match between Nizwa and Ahli Sidab. Another match will be held on September 20, between Seeb and Nizwa, followed by a match on

September 24 between Ahli Sidab and Seeb.

The final qualifiers will be played on October 13, and the championship final to determine the third edition champion will take place on October 15. The tournament follows a singleround league system, where teams are ranked from first to fourth. The first-ranked team will face the fourth, and the second will play the third. The winners of these matches will then compete for the title of the third edition champion.

The tournament mandates the participation of local players only, with no foreign professionals allowed. The first-place team will receive the championship cup and 25 gold medals, while the runners-up will be awarded 25 silver medals. All penalties and sanctions against players and technical and administrative staff will be applied according to international regulations and the tournament’s established rules and regulations.
