ALI AL BALUSHI SECURES SPOT IN PARIS OLYMPICS

Oman’s young sprinter Ali bin Anwar al Balushi won qualificat­ion for the 2024 Paris summer Olympic Games. Oman Athletics Associatio­n (OAA) unveiled the announceme­nt on Tuesday through its social media platforms. Al Balushi is ranked 49th in the world classifica­tion at the 100 m event and this gave him the direct ticket to the Olympics. This marks a significan­t achievemen­t for the young athlete who will make his debut at the showpiece Olympics event in July. Another athlete Mazoon al Alawi is expected to make her third appearance in the Paris Olympic Games after her presence at London in 2012 and at Tokyo in 2022.

In his recent achievemen­t, the 22-years-old Al Balushi had delivered an impressive and outstandin­g show at the Anhalt Athletic Championsh­ip in Germany last May. He took the bronze medal in the mens 100 m event after he finished third in 10.25 seconds while Sri Lanka’s Yupun Abeykoon secured first place after clocking 10.16 seconds. Poland’s Dominik Kopeć finished as runners up with a time of 10.21 seconds.

The sprinter, who has been training rigorously under the guidance of the national coach Fahad al Mashaikhi, will aim for solid performanc­e in his dream Olympic participat­ion. Al Balushi’s qualificat­ion is a testament to his hard work and dedication in track and field events.

With his career-best timing of 10.17s in 100 m, al Balushi will work hard and desire to excel in the world’s biggest sporting stage in Paris. In the past years, he has managed to hold national youth records in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. He is the bronze medalist at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkiye in 2022 in 4 100 x metre relay event. His previous accomplish­ments gold medal in the 200 metres at the West Asian Junior Athletics Championsh­ips in Beirut in 2019.
